Chardon Real Estate
Small in population but big in spirit, Chardon is officially a city of just over 5,000 residents who are the epitome of Midwestern hospitality and charm. Settled in 1812 and today serving as the county seat of Geauga County, Chardon enjoys easy access to Cleveland’s metropolitan attractions via an hour drive to the west, but living in Chardon presents is a quieter respite with a small town culture.
Modeled after a classic New England town, Chardon’s town square serves as the heart of the city. Chardon’s town square is a picture of Americana, with its restored buildings and numerous antique shops that are popular stops for visitors and residents alike. Many of Chardon’s locally-owned and well-respected restaurants are located on or near the town square and offer a variety of dining options in distinctive settings.
The town square plays host to many community events throughout the year. Known for the annual Maple Festival held the first weekend after Easter, the Chardon town square comes alive with family-friendly music, games, food and fellowship. Chardon also boasts an active culture community, anchored by the performances provided by the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild, whose productions take place at the renovated Geauga Theatre. The Geauga Theatre also provides residents a unique place to enjoy first-run movies.
Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy Chardon’s accessibility to Lake Erie, only 25 miles away, or one of the many golf courses in the area. Additionally, Chardon has a plethora of green and park space that is perfect for a variety of activities throughout Chardon’s four seasons of weather. Notable parks include the 12-acre Mel Harder Park, dedicate to the former Cleveland Indians pitcher. Mel Harder Park features baseball fields, picnic tables and grills, and a wonderful playground. Local skateboarders appreciate having their own place to practice their tricks at the skate park donated by the Chardon Community Action Team. The free skate park is located between the city’s swimming pool and sand volleyball courts, making this a great place to spend summer days. For even more excitement, the Pioneer Waterland is three acres of pools and various waterslides.
