Notable historic attractions in Willoughby Hills include the Squire’s Castle, located in the Cleveland Metroparks’ North Chagrin Reservation, which was built in the 1890s by a founder of the Standard Oil Company. Today Squire’s Castle is open to the public with free admission and has served as the Willoughby Hills Public Library’s place to hold its history seminars. The land surrounding the castle offers footpaths, riding trails and plenty of open space for fun and games. Additionally, Frank Lloyd Wright, one of America’s finest architects, has left a piece of his legacy for all to enjoy in Willoughby Hills. His Louis Penfield House, one of only nine “Usonian” homes in Ohio, was designed to accommodate the owner’s tall stature and includes a floating staircase and other incredible amenities. The home is one of the few of Wright’s creations that allow guests to spend an evening there.
